Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to regulate the borrowing and returning of books to the PSCJ Library.

 

PSC Library Mission

We are committed to support the College mission to provide first-class education and life-long learning by providing convenient and effective access to high quality library services, identifying, acquiring, organizing, and preserving information resources designed to meet the academic curricula, research, intellectual and professional needs of the PSC community; broaden the students’ knowledge as well as to develop their competence far beyond the textbook and classroom lectures; foster search for knowledge and understanding in the College & wider community, and upgrade library information technology infrastructures to accomplish the library mission.

 

Vision

  • Given technological advances and the changing nature of higher education.
  • The Library will be more technology-driven.
  • Collections will be supported with electronic collections.
  • A growing number of digitized library materials will be available, with the original work accessible only under special conditions.
  • Library systems will be more integrated with the other depts.
  • The overall PSC Library will function more as a community center, with more activities, sponsored events, meetings, etc. besides being a place of quiet study.

Policy Provisions

The commitment of the PSCJ Library is to support the mission of PSCJ. To this end, the Library endeavors to serve the students, faculty, and staff of the PSCJ community by building a collection that meets present and future information needs.

 

Cataloging Policy

Materials cataloged include books, serials, video recordings, sound recordings, maps, electronic resources, and microforms. Library of Congress authorities are used to control the names and subject headings in the catalog. The collections are classified according to the Library of Congress classification schedules.

Undergraduate students Loan period:4 weeks, Renewals: 3
Postgraduate students Loan period:4 weeks, Renewals: 3
Full-time Faculty Loan period: Semester, Renewals: 0
Part-time Faculty Loan period:4 weeks, Renewals: 0
Staff Loan period:4 weeks, Renewals: 3

It is imperative that staff in particular, who borrow library material, is to return such material as a matter of priority.

 

Operating Hours

8:00 to 9:00 p.m.- Saturday to Wednesday

Hours of service may be extend upon instructions of the College Administration

 

Inter-Library Loan Policy

Any PSC faculty, staff member, or currently enrolled student in good standing with the Libraries is eligible for interlibrary loan services. A valid PSCJ identification card is required when checking out Interlibrary Loan materials.
